Boost DOT compliance with Nviroclean Spill Kits
“Elevate driver and safety team satisfaction and lower your with Nviroclean Truck Spill Kits.”
The buzz is out and about whether Spill Kits are mandated by the DOT or OSHA. The answer is yes and no. No, the kit itself is not mandated. A Spill Remediation Plan is mandated and a Spill Kit, when properly assembled, including a method for cleaning and disposing of the spill liquid, fulfills that mandate. Nviroclean Truck Spill Kit combines everything you need into a convenient and compact bin that is perfect as a product recycling bin. Nviroclean doesn’t require any special disposal. And the gloves and goggles are for whatever you are cleaning, not the Nviroclean.

Still Using Oil Dry for Oil Spills and Leaks?
Nviroclean, Socks, and Spill Kits Are The Most Effective Way To Clean Up Spills
Many facilities are still using oil dry at their facilitates. Oil Dry goes by many names – Kitty Litter, Oil Dri, Cat Litter, Clay Absorbent – however they all have the same result. And none are land-fill safe, safe for the enviroment, or legal to toss in the trash.
Is Kitty Litter a good absorbent for Oil?
The simple answer is no – Kitty Litter or Oil Dry is not a good absorbent for Oil. While it looks like the oil gets absorbed by kitty litter, technically the oil never gets fully absorbent and just sits on top of the surface of the Kitty litter. But you don’t have to take our word for it. The EPA, DOT, and local governments are trying to spread the word about the hazards of using the wrong product to clean spills. California is educating on the proper use of Oil Absorbents. New York is urging the proper disposal of oil absorbents. And Keller-Heartt Oil, while listing instructions on using Oil Dry, clearly states it be placed in a plastic bag and taken to a landfill that meets certain exemptions.
Oil Dry vs. Kitty Litter vs. Clay – what’s the difference vs. Nviroclean?
There is no difference between oil dry or kitty litter. They are both a clay based absorbent used to quickly clean up oil on the ground. They both have one thing in common – they are not effective and can actually be hazardous to your health when inhaled. And neither can be thrown in the trash when you are done. Oh, it happens all the time but you are doing it while looking over your shoulder. Yes, both are toxic and can not be thrown in the trash. Nviroclean is made from the Earth and safe to return to the Earth. Nviroclean quickly absorbs and is a sorbent. That means what it picks up, it holds on to. Technical term “encapsulate”. Nviroclean is reusable. Clean up oil, then clean up brake fluid, and then clean up transmission fluid, and then clean up cooking oil and paint.
Reasons we do not recommend using oil dry or kitty litter:
1) It is hazardous for your health – breathing in the oil dry as it is put on the ground. There is a dust that goes into the air which when breathed in can get into your lungs and cause respirator issues. Nviroclean is completely safe, you can use it with your bare hands. There are no harmful particles to fear inhaling.
2) It’s dirty – clay can get stuck in everything from the soles of your shoes to the tires on a truck or forklift, causing the clay to move from an area where the oil spill was to other areas in your facility, such as the office or manufacturing floor. Oil pads stay in one place and cannot be tracked. Nviroclean is a complete sorbent. The spill cleaned up is trapped inside. You can use it to clean your boots, leave on the floor as a non-slip product, and leaves no residue when done.
3) It’s heavy and requires a lot of labor – a typical 50-lb bag of kitty litter or oil dry clay absorbs about 4-gallons of oil. In addition to lifting the heavy bag and then putting it on the ground, you then have to move it around to absorb the oil and then sweep it up. Nviroclean is nearly light as air. And it is reusable. A 1.5 cubic foot bag can be picked up with one hand. Using the product is easy and doesn’t require any wait time. When done, just toss in the bin.
